Jayshree Chander, MD, MPH is the founder of Beyond Holistic, a pioneer Primary Prevention Practice with a mission to improve the well-being of the individual and the collective in body, mind, spirit, family, community, and workplace through healing, arts, and medicine. Her training and experience covers all the bases: mind, body, spirit, family, community, occupation, environment, and society.

Dr. Chander graduated medical school from UW-Madison; completed her internship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis; finished her residency in family and community medicine through the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) at San Francisco General Hospital; earned a master’s degree in public health from UC-Berkeley; and finished her fellowship in occupational and environmental medicine at UCSF. She is board certified in Family and Community Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine, as well as Occupational and Environmental Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.

Jayshree includes her knowledge and experience of other healing traditions in her practice of medicine. She is a practitioner of vipassana meditation, ashiatsu, and Iyengar yoga, and has studied the principles of ayurveda and has a solid grasp of the fundamentals of traditional Chinese medicine.

* Ashiatsu is a form of manual medicine based in Traditional Chinese Medicine meridian theory practiced primarily with the practitioner’s feet. In Japanese, ashi means foot, atsu means pressure. Ashiatsu is practiced with the patron fully clothed on a futon on the floor. Jayshree has been studying ashiatsu since 1995 with Edward Spencer in the tradition of Shizuko Yamamoto. Her practice is focused on primary prevention and is based on the fact that the body has the capacity to resist illnesses, be resilient to injuries, and heal itself given the appropriate assistance. Dr. Chander uses ashiatsu to assist the patron to access deep relaxation states, cultivate resilience, and enhance resistance to dis-ease. She is currently not employing ashiatsu to diagnose or treat injuries and illnesses.

**Iyengar Yoga emphasizes alignment in the poses and makes use of props, such as blocks, belts, and blankets to enable people of all abilities to benefit from the poses without injury. Dr. Chander has been practicing yoga in the Iyengar tradition regularly since 1993.  She graduated from the advanced studies/teacher training program at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in San Francisco and has studied at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune in Feb 1997 and Feb 2008. Dr. Chander is currently not employing Iyengar yoga to diagnose or treat injuries and illnesses.
