Now let’s take this test to the test! This week, share the implicit bias test with a change maker you trust. Think friend, family member, coworker, boss, religious leader, teacher, etc. Encourage the same exercise of self-examination and then a simple act of change that he or she might implement as a result.

Dear Friends,

A warm thank you to the “three musketeers” (you know who you are) for inviting me to restart the Beyond Asana course online when we all retreated into our homes in mid-March this year. My heart and thoughts continue to be enriched by our connection, practice, meditations, and discussions. The conventional and traditional definitions of the yamas and niyamas are getting updated based on our recent discussions. We are transforming the world, one breath and one thought at a time.

For ease and continuity of practice, we are focusing our attention on the first four limbs of yoga practice in 2 separate sessions. Asana (mastery of physical body/poses) and Pranayama (mastery of breath) practice is happening three days of the week. Our in depth explorations of the Yamas (mastery of social conduct), Niyamas (mastery of personal conduct), and the qualities of enlightenment take place once a week. See below for scheduling details.

Fathers and Brothers Careis a program that aims to empower boys and men of all age, cultures, classes, background, and abilities to become allies in stopping the violence against females.

The program involves a series of playful three-hour sessions replete with games, collaborative projects, performances, arts and crafts. It is a time for fathers and daughters, or brothers and sisters to share fun, thought provoking activities, and deepen relationships and strengthen communication skill so difficult issues can be discussed in a loving and respectful way. It is an opportunity for the gals to be heard and develop leadership skills; and for the guys to express themselves effectively and support each other. Fathers and brothers learn to encourage leadership qualities in their daughters and sisters and become educated about gender issues in order to build safer communities for all women and girls.

Fathers and Brothers Care is based on the Because We Have Daughters program developed by Men Stopping Violence.

Thank You and Very Brief Survey: 1918 Spanish Flu documentary film and discussion

Hello Friends,

Thank you for attending the online film screening on 28 April 2020 and participating in the post-screening discussion.

I appreciated your presence, quality of attention, and engagement in the discussion. I recognize the film may have brought up many different emotions. For some it provoked some insomnia, for others a sense of relief that we got through that pandemic and we will surely get through this one. I really hope our time together held something of value and meaning for you, and moreover that new information or ideas were brought forth for you, either in the moment or thereafter.

Please complete a very short survey about this event to guide my planning for the future. I welcome your comments, feedback, and suggestions.

You can go to the survey by clicking here

Thank you again for your participation and I hope to see you in the future.

Looking forward, staying present,
Jayshree

Film Screening: 1918 Spanish Flu and Panel discussion

Hello Friends,

Let’s take a look back to consider how we move forward. Please join Beyond Holistic next Tuesday, April 28 at 7 pm PST for an online viewing of a historical documentary on the 1918 Spanish Flu, from the comfort of your home, as we practice social distancing. Please invite your network to join us.

A panel discussion will follow at 7:45 pm PST on how Covid-19 will impact our lives and world. We hope this event offers us an opportunity to help us learn from the events that set the stage for the 1918 pandemic, and the paradigm shifts that took place in the recovery period, so that we can be thoughtful and deliberate about how we re-create our world now and mitigate the impact of future pandemics.

Beyond Holistic Film Screenings encourage us to think deeply and broadly as we expand the conversation about what is important and relevant to our individual and collective well-being. The goal is to foster community, dialogue, cross-cultural communication, and action around issues pertaining to the health of individuals and the planet.
